Every track in Lumen Grid has an eight-slot SPC CLAP rack, and the summed bus has eight more. That is a full processing chain per track and a master chain, inside a standalone looper.

PRISM Q first

Before you open a rack, every track already has PRISM Q built in — a three-band EQ for quick tonal shaping.

Use it for the obvious moves: high-pass what does not need low end, pull down a region that is crowding something else. Most tracks need nothing more, and keeping it out of the rack means the slots stay available for the work that actually needs a plugin.

The per-track rack

Eight serial slots. Each hosted plugin opens its real editor in a movable, resizable, closable window, coloured to match its track so you know what you are looking at in a busy session. Editor state is recalled with the session.

Order matters exactly as it does anywhere else — each processor reacts to what the one before it did. A sensible default:

  1. EQ (or use PRISM Q instead)
  2. Dynamics
  3. Saturation
  4. Modulation
  5. Space

The FAT MASTER rack

Eight slots on the summed bus, before the final output gain.

This is a master chain, so treat it like one. Glue compression, a little saturation, and a limiter last. Small amounts — everything here affects every track at once.

The mixer feeding it has true track and master metering, so you can see what the bus is actually receiving before you process it.

Resampling: committing a chain to audio

This is the feature worth learning properly.

What it does: renders a clip offline through the exact current rack state, so the processing becomes part of the audio file.

Why you would:

  • The CPU those plugins were using comes back.
  • Their latency goes away.
  • The sound is committed, so it stops being a decision you can reopen at three in the morning.
  • The clip becomes a normal audio file you can chop, stretch and mangle further — see unlock your creativity.

The choices you get:

Replace plus Delete Chain is full commitment and maximum CPU recovery. New Scene plus Keep Chain is the safe experiment — you get both versions and can compare.

There is stale-apply protection, so if the rack changed after you started, the render will not quietly apply the wrong state.

When to do it: when a sound has stopped changing. If you have not adjusted a track’s chain in several sessions, it is finished whether or not you have admitted it. Same logic as printing effects to audio in a DAW.

Managing CPU

A standalone app running eight plugins on each of eight tracks plus a master chain will use real CPU. Three levers:

  1. Resample finished tracks. The biggest single win.
  2. Raise the buffer once you are past the recording stage. Playback and rendering do not need low latency — audio setup covers this.
  3. Use fewer plugins. PRISM Q handles a lot of what people reach for a plugin to do.

Which SPC effects to reach for

The whole Spectral Colors line loads, so this is a matter of what the job is:

A workflow that scales

  1. Shape with PRISM Q first. Many tracks need nothing else.
  2. Add a rack only when you can name what it is for.
  3. When the sound is right, resample — New Scene, Keep Chain.
  4. Compare the resampled version with the live one.
  5. If the resample is right, delete the chain and take the CPU back.
  6. Keep the FAT MASTER rack short.

That leaves you with a light session, committed sounds and headroom to keep building — which is the whole point of a performance tool.
